- Check your contract for the cancellation method (in person, by mail, online) and the notice period.
- Send a written cancellation by a trackable method (certified mail or email) and keep proof.
- Ask your bank or card issuer to stop future recurring payments if charges continue after the notice period.
- If the gym still bills you, dispute the charge with your card issuer and file a complaint with your state attorney general or the BBB.
Free letter you can copy
I am writing to cancel my membership, account number [MEMBER NUMBER], effective immediately or at the end of my notice period on [DATE]. Please stop all future charges and confirm the cancellation in writing within 10 days. I have kept a copy of this letter as proof that I asked to cancel.

What an independent advocate does (and doesn't)
- Does: reviews your situation, writes a tailored letter, tells you exactly what to send and say, and plans next steps if the company stalls.
- Doesn't: pretend to be the company, log in to your accounts, ask for passwords or card numbers, give legal advice or guarantee a refund.
