How to ask YouTube Premium for a refund

  1. Check the company's current refund policy and the date and amount of the charge.
  2. Gather proof: cancellation confirmation, screenshots, receipts and any chat or ticket numbers.
  3. Write to YouTube Premium through its official channel with one clear request: a refund of the exact amount, to the original payment method, by a reasonable date.
  4. If you were billed through an app store, partner or card, ask them as well.
  5. If there is no fix, move up the ladder below, starting with your card issuer and then Company grievance officer.

These steps are generic guidance and are marked verify: YouTube Premium's screens and policies can change.

Tips and common pitfalls

  • Avoid: Cancelling in the app but still being billed through an app store or partner
  • Avoid: Cancelling on the renewal date itself
  • Avoid: Screenshots missing, so you cannot prove you cancelled
  • Avoid: Free trial end date forgotten

Deadlines to keep

  • Send your cancellation: Before the next renewal date (note free-trial end dates)
  • First follow-up: 7 days after your written request with no reply (our suggestion, not a legal rule)
  • Escalate: About 14 days after your first written request, move to the next step: Company grievance officer
  • Card or bank dispute: As soon as an unauthorised or post-cancellation charge appears; issuers set their own time limits (check yours) [VERIFY]
  • Check statements: For the next two billing cycles after cancelling

These are our recommendations, not legal deadlines.

Evidence checklist

  • ☐ Screenshots of every cancellation or refund screen
  • ☐ Confirmation emails or reference numbers
  • ☐ Bank or card statement showing each charge
  • ☐ Dates, times and channels of every contact, and agent names or IDs
  • ☐ Proof of the plan and price you signed up for
  • ☐ Which billing method was used (card, app store, partner)

What we have checked about YouTube Premium

  • Refund policy: Refund rules for subscriptions differ by plan, billing method and timing. Check the company's current refund or cancellation policy before you write. (verify)
  • Billing methods commonly used: card, UPI AutoPay, Google Play, App Store (verify)
  • Common problems people report: Charged after I cancelled; Charged twice; Free trial turned into paid plan

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a refund after cancelling YouTube Premium?

It depends on your agreement, the billing method, timing and local law. Ask in writing, quote the exact amount and date, and keep the reply.

What if YouTube Premium refuses?

Ask for the decision in writing, then try your card issuer or the escalation steps for India (Company grievance officer or National Consumer Helpline (NCH / INGRAM)).

How long should I wait before escalating?

A common approach is 7 to 14 days after a clear written request. That is our suggestion, not a legal rule.
